Renowned Media Critic Jeff Cohen to Speak in Cherry Hill
At Screening of “War Made Easy:
How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death”

Cherry Hill – Writer, lecturer, and media critic, Jeff Cohen, appears briefly in “War Made Easy” and as a TV pundit, he had been a rare dissenting voice in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. As featured speaker for the showing of “War Made Easy” to be held on August 24 From 7:00 – 10:00 PM ,at the Cherry Hill Unitarian Universalist Church – 401 Kings Hwy. N , Cohen will address the key points of the movie as presented by another famous medic critic , Norman Solomon, whose research and tough-minded analysis documents patterns of political and media deception for war – from Vietnam to Iraq.

The film presents disturbing examples of propaganda and media complicity from the present, alongside rare footage of political leaders and leading journalists from the past, revealing in stunning detail how the American news media have uncritically disseminated the pro-war messages of successive presidential administrations.

Few Media critics have been afforded an intimate, on-the-job view of the outlets they condemn, as those afforded Jeff Cohen. In 1986, Cohen founded FAIR, a media watch group and served as the group’s executive director for a number of years, later served on its board of directors. Upon taking a full time job with MSNBC in May 2002, Cohen stepped down from FAIR’s board. In addition to being an on-air commentator for MSNBC, he was a weekly panelist on Fox News Channel from 1997 – 2002 ; a co-host of CNN’s “Crossfire” in 1996.

At MSNBC, Cohen was a senior producer of the “Phil Donahue Show” but three weeks prior to the invasion; Cohen’s TV career was terminated for political reasons – after he had seen war-enabling bias and censorship up close.

His columns have been published in dozens of dailies, including USA Today, Washington Post, Los Angles Times, Boston Globe, Newsday and Atlanta Constitution. Cohen is the author and co-author of five books, his latest,”Cable News Confidential: My Misadventures in Corporate Media”.

After the movie, Jeff Cohen will give a brief speech followed by a Q&A session from the audience. Cohen will be available for book signings and interviews, along with light refreshments at completion of the program.
